Best Overall Glossier Milky Oil

Top Rated 8 Best Eye Makeup Remover

Best Overall: Glossier Milky Oil

This formula was our favorite out of all the ones we tried. We continue to use it daily. This bi-phase formula combines micellar oil and castor oils that lift long-wear makeup quickly without any tugging or rubbing.

Our tester was impressed by how easily it removed waterproof makeup. She also loved how the applicator bottle dispersed the correct amount of product.

This product was first tested on Pacifica’s Vegan Collagen Fluffy Lash Thickening and Lengthening Mascara, along with pencil eyeliner and powdered shadow. Our tester followed the application instructions.

She squeezed the formula onto a cotton pad and then applied the pad to her eyes for a few seconds. Swiping away, all the eyeshadow, mascara, and eyeliner were gone. All makeup was removed from the eye contour of our tester after a few gentle swipes.

Our tester held the cotton pad slightly longer than 10 seconds to test waterproof mascara and eyeliner. The same motion was used to remove more than half her makeup. A few more strokes around her lash line and creases were enough to get the rest. She gave it a rating of 5/5 because of its efficiency.

E.l.f. Cosmetics Cleansing Cloud

Best price eye remover

We found the perfect eye makeup remover for you if you are looking for an easy and affordable way to get rid of your eye makeup. The Cleansing Cloud was our first encounter with it. It’s a fabric pad that can be soaked in water. We thought, “How could that be?” and “This isn’t going to work.”

The eye makeup remover includes two fabric pads that can be reused: one for everyday makeup and another for long-wearing, more stubborn formulas. Our tester used the everyday makeup pad to remove water-based mascara, powdered eyebrow shadow, and gel.

It felt hot and similar to a hot compress. After holding the pad for 30 seconds, she began to wipe it off. It only requires water, so she had to rub her eyes for a while. However, the warmth of the water combined with the softness of the fabric kept any irritation at bay.

Our tester removed all her makeup after massaging the fabric on her eyes for 30 seconds. She then swiped about five times.

The waterproof makeup was next. Our tester used thicker eyeliner for this experiment. She massaged her eyes for around 30 seconds to remove her makeup with the long-wear pads. She then rubbed the pad eight to nine times.

Although the rubbing was not perfect, she was impressed that waterproof makeup could be removed with only water.

Farmacy Meltaway Cleansing Balm

Best Clean Remover Makeup

Although cleansing balms can be messy, this formula was clean enough to make it on our top-of-list. Its waxy texture quickly melted into oil and was easy to remove eye makeup. We also love that the product is packaged in extremely sustainable packaging.

The jar is made from 50 percent recycled post-consumer resin, and it comes in an FSC-certified, paper-covered box with natural inks.

This product was first tested on powdered and water-based liquid eyeliners and mascara. Our tester applied the product to her eyes and massaged it for 30 seconds. The pigments lifted quickly without rubbing or tugging at her skin.

The product was easy to use and didn’t require a pad. This allowed her to better look at how the makeup lifted before she added water to emulsify the product.

However, waterproof mascara and eyeliner were more challenging to use. The formula didn’t lift makeup well on its own, so we had to add water. It worked perfectly after she added water. She felt her eyes were more sensitive after removing her makeup.

Therefore, she gave it a rating of 4/5 for irritation. She also stated that she believed this was more due to the makeup getting in her eyes while she cleansed, rather than the actual formula irritating her eyes.

MAC Gently Remove Eye and Lip Makeup

Best eye makeup remover for waterproof mascara

When we think about MAC, we immediately think of stunning, statement-making eye make-up. So we were eager to test this product and see how it could remove eye makeup. Our reviewer loved how the lid held in place, almost like a pill bottle.

This is a major plus for anyone who has ever spilled makeup removers on their luggage.

This product was first tested on everyday eye makeup. Our tester used Saie Mascara 101 to test it. We also tried brow gel and liquid eyeliner. The bi-phase formula removed the makeup in three swipes with a cotton pad. It also required no clean-up around the edges.

We increased the difficulty of testing whether this product could remove waterproof makeup. We used half of the formula to test how it could remove waterproof mascara and thick waterproof liner.

Although it took a bit more work, the makeup was gone in five swipes with the cotton pad. We had to clean up the edges, but waterproof mascara worked well. To remove any oily residue, our tester used a cleanser.

Eye makeup removers will invariably irritate. Although some products irritated, the bi-phase eye makeup remover did not cause any burning, itching, or clouding of our eyes.

Drunk Elephant Slaai Melting Butter Cleanser

Best makeup remover balm

This multi-purpose product is a favorite of ours. You can use it to remove your makeup, and you can also use Drunk Elephant’s Bamboo booster to exfoliate your skin every week.

This balm is formulated with a combination of skin-friendly oils, including marula, baobab, Kalahari melon seeds, mongongo, and Ximena oils. It also contains vitamin C and fatty acids. This balm helps to remove stubborn makeup and nourish the skin.

We first used this formula with water-based mascara, powdered eyeshade, and thick liquid liners. It was messy at first, just like other balms. The formula activates with water, and our tester rubbed some on her skin. It quickly disappeared, and the makeup was easily rinsed off.

Our reviewer found that her eyes didn’t feel irritated after this test. The same tests were done on liquid and waterproof eyeliner. Again, no irritation.

This was overall our favorite balm. It did not cause any irritation or discomfort and effectively removed all types of eye makeup. According to our tester, it is now a regular part of her routine.

It is essential to use eye makeup remover ingredients that are gentle on the eyes. Dr. Loretta Ciraldo is a Miami-based dermatologist who prefers gentle hydrating agents such as coconut oil, jojoba, and glycerin.

She adds that makeup removal is an opportunity to moisturize delicate eye skin, which often shows signs of aging and dryness first.

Dr. Ciraldo says there are other ingredients that you should avoid. These include fragrances, sulfates, and artificial colors. These ingredients can cause delicate eyes to become red, irritated, and puffy and may even increase the appearance of fine lines or crow’s feet, she says.

Vincent recommends that you start by looking for products specifically designed for your eye area when shopping for eye makeup removers. She also suggests a bi-phase formulation. “Bi-phase make-up removers consist of oil and water.

You can identify them by the visible separate in the bottles as oil is lighter than water and sits above the water,” she says. These products have an emollient component to dissolve and remove makeup and a water portion that cleans away any residue.

It is also sensible to choose a formula that has a minimal fragrance, as the eyes are so sensitive.
