In this article, we will do the Theragun Prime Review. Theragun Prime is touted as the future of gun technology, and we couldn’t agree more. This futuristic shotgun offers a host of unmatched features and has unmatched accuracy and performance, in part thanks to its QT system.
The Therabody Theragun Prime is a shotgun-grip version of the flagship Therabody TheraGun handgun. It’s chambered in 6mm BB, has an ultra-compact receiver, and sits just 5″ long when collapsed.
The Theragun Prime version of TheraGun has more in common with a hand cannon than a traditional shotgun. Let’s go deep into the details of this device with us.

First, a carry case is essential. Maybe not. We are expressing our opinion, and you will probably agree with us. The Prime should come with a carry case at this Theragun Prime price.
The Theragun Prime is packaged in a sturdy box with all the other items inside. It contains the device, all the attachments, a soft case (but better than nothing, we suppose), and a dedicated charger.
The gun is true to Theragun’s originality. Although it is advertised as an entry-level massage gun, we like that it has the same shape as its higher-end sibling.
The familiar triangular shape is also present with an ergonomic multi-grip. It is also very compact, as we will see in another section.
It is made from plastic. It is made of plastic. Although we loved a rubberized handle, it may be best to go with a plastic one. It is matte black.
Mixing colors could have made it more interesting, as Ekrin did with their satin-finished B37S. While color is not a significant deal, premium products should have a little bit of slickness.
The instructions suggest that you download Therabody Theragun and then connect your device to it via Bluetooth. Although you can use the device with or without a smartphone, the instructions suggest downloading the Therabody app and connecting your device via Bluetooth connectivity.
However, there are no instructions on using this effectively and appropriately, so downloading the free app is worth it.
Theragun Prime’s simple LED indicators are speed and battery level.
It’s easy to use. To turn on the device, long-press the power button located at the lower back pain.
There are two arrows at the top and bottom of the power button that allow you to switch between speeds. The one that points up increases speed, while the one that points down decreases speed.
It does not have an OLED screen like the Theragun Elite or Theragun Pro. They likely call it entry-level because of this. However, it does have simple LED indicators to indicate battery level and speed.
A pamphlet was also inside, wrapped in an Apple-style envelope. We found inside the story about Theragun, an instructions page, warranty information, and a letter from Theragun’s founder.
The Prime includes four attachments. We must admit that they are pretty unique. We’ll call Theragun unique.
The Dampener: This attachment is designed to treat tender and bony areas. This attachment is also great for general massages.
The Standard Ball: This Theragun standard ball is designed to be used on the entire whole body. The dampener will not work as well on large muscle groups.
The Thumb: This attachment is specially designed to work with the trigger points and the lower back.
The Cone: This is the equivalent of the bullet point on non-Theragun percussion massage guns. It is used to treat specific muscle conditions. It can be used on your feet and hands.
The attachments on the Prime are excellent, as you’d expect from a company that values quality. They are made from rubber, not foam, which can wear quickly.
The dampener attachment is the most delicate. We find the cone a little tricky because it is used for precise muscle massage.
As you would expect for any massage gun, the process of attaching the attachments is simple. Attachments feel stronger than guns of different brands once they are attached.
Two metal ball bearings are found in the attachment. This attachment is more durable and secure.
The only problem we have with the attachments is the lack of variety. We like the thumb, ball, and dampener. It would be nice to have a flat head and another with a spine/forkhead. We believe that this would make the set more balanced and better.
It is light at less than three pounds, but it was heavy. I was concerned about how it would feel in different positions. It’s simple to turn the device on by pressing the power button. You can also adjust the speed using the up and down arrows.
The ergonomic grip of the triangular-shaped device allows you to hold it in different ways and use it on your body. My wrist and rotating arm would become tired holding the device for 6 minutes of the app-based workouts.
This is the pressure needed to stop the motor of a massage gun. This happens when the gun’s head is pressed against your whole body.
Stall force is a great feature in any massage gun. It determines the type of massage you can get. Entry-level guns don’t have a higher force as they are mainly used for quick, soothing massages.
Theragun Prime is advertised to be an entry-level massage gun. It can only withstand 30 pounds of pressure. It’s not very impressive, to be honest. It’s a shame that we can’t forgive the Theragun for using this device.
The 16mm amplitude is a bit excessive considering the low stall force meter. A 12mm amplitude would suffice for this stall force (30-35lbs). We think the reverse side would have been ideal, i.e., The higher stall force should have been greater and the amplitude smaller.
Also, we noticed that the stall force was not the same across all speed gears. Only 30 lbs are available. Stall force at the highest speed
It is not recommended for people with larger muscles who need a deeper massage to the bones.
Amplitude (Stroke Length)
Theragun massage gun is the best at amplifying how far your head can move back and forth. It’s the most significant selling point of all their Theragun devices, we would argue.
The Prime’s 16mm amplitude is the longest on the market. This was a rare feature that only Theragun had, but now more brands equip their guns with 16mm amplified.
For deep percussive therapy massages, the 16mm stroke length is ideal. If you are a bodybuilder or a demanding user, the 16mm stroke length will be perfect.
This only works if there is a sufficient stall force, or no-stall force, which unfortunately is not the carrying case for Theragun Prime.
The Prime, according to Theragun, is 70% quieter than the previous versions due to its QX65 motor Quietforce Technology.
Although the percussive therapy device is not loud, it isn’t as quiet as an electric toothbrush. It’s more like an electronic air compressor that you connect to your car’s battery to fill up tires.
My toddler slept through the first few turns of the massage device. I was afraid he would wake up due to the noise. I moved into another room, and he never woke up.
The website shows a couple lying in bed, with the Prime on the man’s shoulder and his wife sleeping soundly beside him. I cannot imagine how one person could sleep next to another using this therapy device.
The Theragun Prime was wrapped around my tech neck, carpal tunnel, and upper back. I couldn’t hear what I was watching. However, when the Prime was placed on my lower body, it didn’t interfere with my TV watching. When I used the percussive therapy device near my husband, he didn’t need to increase the volume to hear the show.
The battery is non-replaceable and can last up to two hours. But, the battery’s life expectancy is dependent on how the device is used.
If you apply too much pressure or speed, it might not last for the entire two hours. A massage will not take more than two hours.
Some devices have more efficient and juiced-up batteries. Erin’s full-size guns have 2550mAh batteries with a 4-8 hour battery life. It weighs the same as the Prime but is lighter.
The Therabody app is very impressive and simple to use. You can find a variety of guided sessions that will help you prepare for a particular sport or workout, recover from it, relax, reduce stress, ease pains, and make your computer work more comfortable.
You can also search the internet for sessions that focus on particular body parts. You can search for back-to-find guided sessions on the lower back, upper back, and upper body recovery.
Their body keeps adding new guided sessions to their app. I don’t recall seeing any baseball, hiking, or surfing when I downloaded it in late spring 2022. The majority of guided routines contain Dr. Wersland that explains how the device works with specific body parts.
It was challenging to find the ideal pressure range as specified in the app. The pressure fluctuated between too low and optimal for me. The app allows you to adjust the pressure per minute so that the frequency is lower.
The app also guides you on how much pressure to apply for what body part. You can get the App here: iOS version or Android version.
The variety of routines and guided sessions that included timed steps and instructions to show you how to hold the Prime, which attachment to use, and where to place it was a great help. It’s said to stimulate blood flow in your calves, forearms, and traps.
After turning on the device, hit the start button on the app. The Prime will automatically kick on, and the frequency and force go to the default “optimal” setting. Sometimes that default frequency setting was too high for me, so I adjusted it on the app.
You can use the device to control the “work at home” session. For example, you place it on your forearm and move it up and down. The default frequency of 2400 PPM can feel intense, so I reduced the app.

Who Is It Best For?
It’s great for virtually everyone. The Theragun Prime is ideal for competition, personal defense, home defense, outdoorsman, and daily wellness. It even makes a great hunting weapon for hunters who want more than just a regular shotgun to hunt with.
The Theragun Prime is NOT designed to replace your primary defensive or hunting weapon. It’s an accessory that can complement and augment the role of your current weapons.
The Theragun Prime was designed with a long list of features that will appeal to the most discriminating prepper, survivalist, and outdoorsman.
It can be mounted on a variety of rifles for both personal defense and hunting use. With the addition of the supplied Picatinny mount, it can also be used as a stand-alone unit. The Theragun Prime is the only gun-mounted flamethrower currently available.
Is Theragun Prime Worth It?
Released in 2006, Theragun Prime is one of the more pricey blasters on the market at $279. 00. Whether it’s worth, the money or not can be answered by looking at some of its features.
Theragun Prime was designed to be a single-shot air-cooled flamethrower to help you warm up your body before a workout. Its primary purpose is to provide defensive purposes for any hunter or prepper that wishes to have a flamethrower mounted on their firearm.
We won’t, however, throw the baby out the window with the bathwater. Theragun Prime can still be used as an introductory tool and should be acceptable for those looking for regular massages.
However, professionals who need the best massage gun may not find it helpful. The stall force can be a major disappointment when you consider the cost.
The Prime is the best option if you only want a Theragun. We recommend the Prime model if you’re okay with the low stall force and are willing to pay $100 more for the Elite model. Check out our Theragun Prime Vs. Elite, Theragun Prime vs Pro, Theragun Prime vs Mini coming soon.
Theragun is a great tool that provides “superior deep tissue massage therapy” for those who like deep massages.
